It's official, Gilchrist County is now majority Republican !!!!!!!
On Febraury 22nd, the Supervisor of Elections registered another voter under the Republican Party. That voter made the column from majority democrat move to majority Republican. Just a few highlights of how far Gilchrist County has come. In 1998, we had roughly 800 registered Republicans. In 2002, we registered our 2002nd Republican. Also that year we elected our first Republican elected official.........EVER. Over the next few years, we slowly chipped away at the lead and got a few more Republicans elected. In 2006 we held a majority on the School Board and a Republican Supervisor of Elections. In 2010 we elected a Republican Sheriff. We alsi had 2 county commissioners switch to Republican. The next year our School Superintendant joined the Republican Party. Now we have Republicans competeing in almost every race and most voters in the county realize that the Republican Party's platform best fits their ideals and values.

New budget plans to increase taxes on the "wealthy" and will add 901 billion to the debt this year and will run a 1.3 trillion in deficits next year. Republicans argue it adds too much to the debt and doesn't do anything to curb entitlements.

Mandate would force religious organizations and employers to provide contraception, sterilization, and morning after pill in their health care coverage. Law would command institutions to do what their beliefs command them not to do
